| Frequently
Asked Questions |
Am
I a candidate for dental implants? |
That
can only be determined during a personal consultation at the PERMADENT®
Dental Implant Center. At that consultation, the doctor will
evaluate the condition of your teeth, gums, as well as any dental work you
might have. X-rays may be taken and evaluated to determine the
quantity and quality of the bone. The doctor will also evaluate your
pertinent medical history. Most people
are candidates for the procedure.
|
| How
will PERMADENT® replacement teeth look and feel? |
| The
replacement teeth look and feel like the natural teeth they are
replacing. Patients who have had the procedure report that their
replacement teeth feel like a natural part of their body. Many
patients also say that their new teeth have restored the self-confidence
they had lost as a result of wearing removable dentures. |
| How
long will the replacement teeth last? |
| Several
decades of clinical studies have shown dental implant replacement teeth to
be predictably long lasting. In most cases, implants will last a
lifetime. This is a sharp contrast to conventional
dentistry, which is not permanent. The first procedure of this type
was performed more that thirty years ago and the replacement teeth
implanted at that time are still in place and working well. |
| What
is the surgery like? |
| Dental
implant surgery at the PERMADENT® Dental Implant Center is an
office procedure not unlike routine dental treatment. Before the
procedure, the patient may be asked to take oral antibiotics and a
sedative. The procedure is generally carried out under local
anesthesia. Most of our patients report only minor post-operative
discomfort and, in almost every case, are able to return to their routine
activities the day following the procedure. The patient is able to
wear temporary teeth immediately following the surgical implantation
procedure. |
| How
do I care for my implant teeth? |
| You
care for your new teeth just as you would for your natural teeth -
brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups. |
